Jiya Nayee

At the end of her internship at the Association for Culturally Appropriate Services (AfCAS), Mary Gurgone was delighted to receive Jiya's reflections on her AfCAS experience as follows:
I joined AfCAS through my university internship program, hoping to gain real-world accounting experience. The role involved setting up MYOB, assisting with GST lodgment, and working through those tasks hands-on, which taught me far more than any classroom could.
What I didn't expect was how much the organization's mission would stick with me. Being around the work AfCAS does for senior and CALD communities sparked a genuine interest in community services and social impact that I'll carry well beyond this internship. It gave me a whole new appreciation for how accounting plays a vital role in keeping community-focused organizations running.
I'm truly grateful to my supervisor, Mary Gurgone, for her support and guidance throughout. This experience has shaped my skills and the direction I want to take my career. I greatly enjoyed my time at AfCAS, and I wish the team all the best.
