Three CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS speak on the impact of the NEW AGED CARE ACT on our seniors who have given much to their chosen homeland, Australia, and now ageing and dementia may have wiped out English and left them isolated as they may not have family who speak their primary language.

Irene Mooney - CEO MYVISTA & Vice Chair AfCAS
Irene Mooney is the Chief Executive Officer of MYVISTA, a culturally diverse aged-care provider in Western Australia, a role she’s held since 2015. She brings decades of leadership experience across metropolitan, rural, and non-profit health and aged-care settings. As inaugural chair and current Vice Chair of AfCAS, she has made a significant impact on the migrant senior community, helping to deliver culturally appropriate services to seniors of diverse communities and backgrounds.
Theresa Kwok - CEO Chung Wah
Theresa Kwok has devoted decades to improving equitable access to support and care services for non-English-speaking seniors. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Chung Wah Association Inc., Western Australia’s first ethnic association. Their community care initiative, which specifically supports culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) older migrants, provides services to about 800 clients. Her leadership is recognised through multiple awards, including the 2023 WA Senior Australian of the Year.


Yvonne Timson - CEO Community Vision & Treasurer AfCAS
Yvonne Timson is the Chief Executive Officer of Community Vision, having taken on the role in March 2023 after serving as Chief Operating Officer since 2017. With over 15 years of leadership across aged care, disability and mental health sectors, she is skilled in governance, strategic growth, and creating inclusive cultures. As Treasurer of AfCAS, she advocates for strong accountability, equity, and responsive services for culturally diverse older Australians.

How the does the New Act present key considerations for CALD workers’ education and training?

Considerations about the challenge for providers in ensuring the new concepts are understood and needing to do more with less in the new program.

Recognise the growing diversity and richness of the numbers of cultures in our communities.
